7 Tips That You Need To Know About Your GBCTechTraining Online Exams

Thursday 29 Mar 2018

While there are no set exam deadlines for our programs, we here at the Student Support Center understand that taking any exam can be a very stressful time for our students, so today we’re here to discuss everything exam related!

No matter which of our technical programs you may be taking, the exam process is the same. Now, taking an online exam is a different experience in comparison to the traditional pen and paper method. But, it does bring some advantages over the traditional method such as, being able to take the test anywhere and anytime as long as you have a secure internet connection, and receiving your test results almost immediately.

Remember that there is no professor or advisor present during the exam, so make sure that you are well prepared before completing the exam. Once you begin the exam you must complete it.

Here are 7 tips that you should know that will help you better prepare for your exam:

1. The Preparation – To study for your online exam, make sure that you are taking detailed notes including terms and definitions, along with recording any formulas you encounter as you’re moving through each section in a module. The neater your notes, the easier it will be for you to review later.
• As you go through the modules you will also find examples and review question. Make sure that you complete those questions first before checking the answer to ensure that you fully understand the material. If at any point you get stuck and can’t figure out the answer, take a screenshot or take down the question and head over to the Student Forum.
• You will find practice exams at the end of some modules. Be sure to run through those a couple of times before taking the final exam. Your score on these practice exams will give you a good indication of how well you understand the module’s content.

2. The Student Resource Center – Here is where you will find additional online learning resources to further assist you with your studies. The Student Resource Centre is also home to our different Forums.
• The Student Forum is an online community where you can connect with your fellow students to see if anyone else has or had a similar problem as you. Chances are, if you are having trouble with a topic someone else will too. If you cannot find any previous questions regarding your topic, post the question in the Student Forum, and let your fellow students assist you.
• The Tutorial Forum is where you will find tutorials and examples to help you work through the more difficult questions. You can also post your questions in the forum and have a program tutor help you.
• You could also check out our YouTube channel (techtrainingonline) where there are tutorials posted to further assist you with your studies.

3. The Exam Tutorial – The exam tutorial can be found in the Student Support Center. It provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to successfully access and complete your online exams.
• It is a good idea to run through the exam tutorial before you taking your first exam. This way you will be familiar with the process and the specific steps that you will see in the live exam.

4. Internet Browser – In order for you to access the exam, you will need to use Internet Explorer as our exams require ActiveX control to load the exam. At this time, only Internet Explorer supports ActiveX.
• For a step-by-step outline as to launching your exam please check out our blog “How Do I Write an Exam?”

5. Exam Time - You will have 90 minutes to complete the exam. There are 30 questions in each exam. They are composed of mainly multiple choice with some short answer questions. Remember that you are able to use your notes during the exam. This is where taking detailed, organized notes comes in-handy.
• Be sure to always double check your answer before submitting the exam.

6. Exam Submission – Upon submission, you will receive confirmation that the exam has been successfully submitted. If by chance your submission was unsuccessful, you will receive a notification saying that it was unable to send the exam to the marking server. You will then have the option to save the exam. After the exam has been saved, email your exam over to for grading.
• Your exam results will be graded by our exam server and emailed to you within an hour of completion. A summary of your grades can also be found on the “My Account” page in the Student Resource Center.

7. Passing Grade – The minimum passing grade for each module is 60%, if you happen to score less than 60% you are able to retake the exam a second time without any penalty.
• If you scored less than a 60% give us a call here at the Student Support Center. Our Support Consultants will help you understand specific content or technical questions that you might have then reset your exam.
