As George Brown College will be closed the last week of December, we want to make sure our students are aware of our office hours, how this will affect registering into new modules, the availability of student support and taking final exams.

Office Hours

The Student Support Center itself will close at 5 pm on Saturday December 22, 2018, and will reopen on Wednesday morning, January 2, 2018.

Online courses and programs have gained massive popularity in the past few years, attracting a large and diverse population of learners.

At GBC’s School of Distance Education, we offer technical training programs built to prepare International Students for success. Previously, we’ve written about how our tuition fees compare to others and how to leverage your technical background to work in Canada.

In the past few decades, automation has rapidly disrupted and changed industries by redefining responsibilities of existing jobs, and introduced new fields and roles. For example, consider the evolution of Amazon’s warehouses—self-organizing robotic shelves now work with workers to fulfil a high volume of orders quickly and efficiently for rapid delivery, which would not have been possible decades ago!

Online education has brought numerous advantages to learning, such as making education more accessible, and in some ways, more interactive and engaging. However, it has also brought some unique challenges—feelings of isolation, and lack of self-direction and time management issues are common among students in online courses. Isolation is a major obstacle, and students can feel isolated if there aren’t resources or opportunities available to interact with faculty or other students.

At GBC Tech Training, we understand how it can be challenging to get the personal, technical and tutorial support you need when pursuing online education, especially when support is critical to your success in the program. As well, not all online programs offer the same level of support to help you complete your training, which is why our online technical training certificates stand out. Our students have access to the Student Resource Centre which contains a large variety of unlimited resources to help our students succeed and enrich their learning experience.

Online learning is continuing to develop as a great option for obtaining additional skills and experience. At George Brown College School of Distance Education (SDE), our technical certificate programs give you the opportunity to learn using intuitive simulation software, at a pace you’re comfortable with.

If you’re someone considering online technical skills training, it’s important for you to be sure whether it’s a good fit with your lifestyle and best suits your needs as a student.

As technology continues to improve and individuals continue seeking flexible learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom, online education has become an increasingly popular choice for academic and professional training.

At GBC Tech Training, we’re often asked the question: how does a two-year U.S. Associate’s Degree compare to a two-year Diploma from a Canadian College? It’s an important question, particularly for our U.S. based students who may be interested in our programs and aren’t quite sure how they measure up.

You’re thinking about upgrading your technical skills, but still have reservations about going back to school as an adult learner. It’s completely normal to have these feelings. We now live in a world where going back to school as an adult has not only become more common, but increasingly vital, as workers across all industries try to stay relevant in the face of technological and societal change.
